FAQ
A: Absolutely! We encourage you to invite your loved ones! In our experience, having a smaller party creates a more intimate, and personalized experience, focus is on mama, while more guests creates more of a fun, robust atmosphere where guests converse amongst themselves. What sounds better to you? You choose!
You may bring up to three guests, over the age of 12 with you. Unfortunately, no young children (under 12) are permitted at this time.
A: No, you sure don’t, however we do require you be under the care of a Clinician for your current pregnancy. We encourage you to include them in a discussion of all aspects of your pregnancy, including if they have any objection to you having an elective ultrasound.
A: Yes, prior to your ultrasound we require that you have been given an established due date (EDD) by your Clinician, verified with cardiac activity. That means the doctor has either heard the heartbeat with a hand held doppler or it was visualized during a 1st trimester ultrasound.
A: About 45 minutes. Scan time is 20 - 30 minutes depending on how far along you are and if baby is in a good position or not.
A: For your safety. You are in good, qualified hands, who understand and operate under the ALARA principle. Ask us about it!
No problem! We are used to that, it’s pretty common. We will keep it a secret during your scan, and we’ll give you a heads up when we are going to be examining that area, just in case. 😉
A: Occasionally, baby is just not ready to show us. If that is the case we just have to try again. For accuracy, the earliest we recommend trying with ultrasound is at 15 weeks, and 19 weeks for a BMI of 30 or greater. Ultrasound is never 100%. However, if baby gives us a good view, it is highly accurate.
A: Hopefully! Clarity is really up to mom and baby. Rest assured, the Sonographer is capable, and is using the same, top of the line, ultrasound machine used to obtain the images advertised.
A: Mainly,
- Moms’ BMI (body mass index) You will need to know your height and weight to calculate. Less than 30 is likely to have superior image quality than over 30 BMI. The higher the BMI the further the sound waves need to travel, leading to less resolution.
- Fetal position. For example, if baby is breech and facing your back, or there is not fluid space between the placenta/uterus and baby, we may not be able to see their face very well. Don’t worry though, we have time to have you change positions and will try hard to encourage baby to move into a better spot. Remember, we always put safety first, if baby is just not showing us, we have to respect that. We won’t cut your time short, will use the rest of the time to look at whatever else baby wants to show us, like a hand or foot!
- Amniotic fluid amount. Sound waves LOVE water. The more fluid surrounding the baby the more likely we will be able to obtain quality images.
A: Not right before your appointment, we want you to be comfortable. Drinking right before your scan will not effect the amniotic fluid. That takes time, that being said, the week leading up to your ultrasound, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!
A: Good question! A full bladder helps us to visualize your cervix, and placenta location, this will not be evaluated on an elective ultrasound, so not needed!
A: This is always a tough one for us Ultrasonographers. We always aim to please you. It’s so disappointing when we aren’t able to meet your expectations 🙁 We promise, it won't be for lack of effort or skill. It will be for one of the 3 reasons explained above, resulting in less than impressive images, or it’s perceived by mom as a poor quality image. While one parent may think the image is the neatest thing they’ve ever seen, another may think the same that same image is so-so. It’s important to have reasonable expectations. Every person and baby scans differently. The factor of an experienced Technologist and excellent ultrasound eqipment will be on your side though!
A: Unfortunately, no. We are using sound waves to create an image, which is amazing in itself, right? The actual images obtained during your ultrasound are not what you are paying for. The cost of your exam has been established by the type of ultrasound you scheduled, time the Studio is reserved, equipment used, and our Sonographers expertise. The images given in the studio, and sent to your phone or email, are a simple Keepsake for you to remember this incredible experience. We can not guarantee the quantity/quality of Images, as this is dictated by mom/baby but we hope you love them! The performing Sonographer is the only one who has the ability to request a re-scan. This is rare, usually only occurs when baby won’t let us see the gender, for instance.
A: Absolutely not. Your doctor is ordering a very different (diagnostic) type of ultrasound that we offer here. You will have an elective ultrasound here, only. You must keep all your regular scheduled appointments with your doctor, including ultrasounds.
A: The technologist is not doing an evaluation of the baby’s anatomy, however, should they incidentally notice something, they may give your doctors office a courtesy call. Your doctor will get back with you, and you will decide together, what to do next, they may ask you to come in for a Diagnostic Ultrasound, for instance.
A: Sneak Peek is a separate company than us, all questions regarding Sneek Peak results timing etc need to go to Sneak Peek directly.
A: Wear loose comfy clothing.
We pride ourselves in keeping a clean Studio for you and your family to feel comfortable.
Everyone in your party will be asked to remove their shoes when the enter. Please just inform your party, so they are prepared. Slip on shoes work great, but whatever is easy for you.
We will prepare you for your ultrasound, have you lie on the table, and seat your guests before we start.
Now it’s time to see the little one!! How exciting!! Depending on how far along you are and the exam difficulty will dictate the time from usually from 20 - 30 minutes. Usually 45 minutes from the start of your appointment time.
When we are all finished, we will forward all your images, video clips, (in color as seen during your ultrasound if we were able to obtain 3D) right to your phone or email!! You are ready to share digitally right when you leave! Should you want to duplicate any of your favorite images, you can take to any drug store, like CVS and upload them for print! They are all yours!
A: For sure! One of the most reassuring sounds to hear! Anytime after the 1st trimester, 15 weeks and above, you have the option to purchase a My Heartbeat Teddy. We have a little heart recording device that we will listen to baby’s heart, record and place in a Teddy Bear for you, to proudly display in your nursery and cherish forever! Ask us about pricing and available bears.
A: Great! Twins are twice the fun! Please let us know ahead of time at the time of your booking so we allow adequate time. There is a $50 fee for each additional little one.
